Training for the Tri That Wasn’t

The weekend of October 2nd I should have competed in my second triathlon. Instead, I was stuck at home suffering from an awful sinus infection. Even with a cortisone shot in one hip and antibiotic shots in the other, I was still not feeling well enough to compete. Probably for the better though since Georgia had a cold spell that weekend and the low the evening before was only 39 degrees! I would not have wanted to brave an open water swim, healthy or not! I heard from my Tri Girls that the course was unexpectedly hilly but manageable and the cold only bothered them waiting to start swimming and during the bike ride. They were all very happy with their times and how the race went.

We did not train as hard per se for this second race but I was still committed to working out 5-6 times a week. Tennis season came back into full swing so I guess you could say I was cross training as well! The girls and I signed up for a free trial at the local YMCA to take advantage of their indoor pool and upped our distances in biking and running. We were all kind of burned out towards the end and were having a hard time finding the motivation to wake up every single day at 5am. I think next season we’ll space the races out a bit further so we don’t get sick of training or maybe throw in a few different races all together. I would love to try a duathlon or half marathon eventually so that might be something to look into for next year! Even though this race season did not end the way I had hoped, I have still come a long way in my training and am really happy to see all the changes to my body. Hopefully I will only continue to get stronger, loose more weight, and tone up so that next year I can hit the race circuit at my prime!

You should for sure throw a mud race in the mix next year! My friends and I did the Dirty Girl, a 5K with 11 obstacles, and it was awesome! It'd be a fun addition to your race schedule.
