One of the guys who works there recommended a 9mm and actually loaned us his personal firearm to try. It is called a Glock 19 and was just the perfect size for me. Linc and I both took turns and shot about 200 bullets to see what we thought. It had a pretty fierce recoil for my taste but I was able to quickly recover and shoot again. It was also light weight which helps but my arms still got tired after about 3 rounds. Hopefully if there was an intruder and a need for me to use the gun it would not take that much to teach him a lesson!!
During the practice I had certain goals in mind each time I sent the target out. All of these were shot from about 15-20 feet away. Pretty darn good for my first time in a range!
Objective #1
Shoot the Chest
Shoot the Chest
We had such a good time and I am sure we'll be back to try out a few more options before buying anything. They also offer women's shooting classes and monthly memberships so that you can just walk right in on crowded days and not have to wait in line. For as much as I have fought being a "Southerner" for the last 19 years it is definitely starting to rub off on me and I can't wait to go to the range again soon! Certainly not your most common hobby, but I think it's a good thing for a girl to know in this day and age and it gives me peace of mind to know I could protect myself if the need arose! Does anyone else out there have any odd hobbies? Let me know! =)

Hi there,
It is very interesting that you wrote this as I have never heard of another women besides myself who got punped up on an outing such as this with husband. I am in my 40's now with 3 kids but back when I was in late 20's and no kids and living in Decatur my husband and I did this same thing. He had a 9 mm automatic but I bought a .38 revolver. I think it is harder to get a good shot with a revolver. You should try it. Anyway we took lessons and I was so afraid to pull that trigger the first time. I think that women are very good at the target. I used to have to travel and stay in motels and I took it with me and had a concealed weapons license. About 5 years after that we had kids and we sold our guns a little while later. Thanks for the memories!
My dad has gotten really into this since he retired. He has a Glock and is pretty good with it. And he got my mom a shotgun (he calls it a "little girl shotgun"), but I don't think she likes it that much.
I'd like to go shooting sometime, but I don't think I want one in the house at this point in our lives. We should have a girls party at the gun range!
My dad is really into guns, and I always wanted to learn...maybe ill ask Big Man to take me.
Did I tell you we just got a gun about a month ago? Its a 22 magnum revolver. I haven't shot it though. Miah is going to try to get a concealed weapon license.
My husband would love to take me to a place like that!!! I would be scared..haha looks like you had fun!
Brooks told me to tell you...
"don't get a Glock. They are just popular because of the name. The Springfield Armory xD .40 or 9mm is a comparable, but much higher quality/safer gun. The Glock only has a trigger safety while the Springfield has a trigger and a grip safety. You can never be too safe with a gun. The gun is much better for a lot of reasons and about the same price as the Glock you shot."
Brooks has a xD .45, more than what you want. Its a little more powerful than what I think you are looking for. Lincoln might like it though. He said you are welcome to shoot it next time he comes up.
I'm so impressed that you went shooting! I've never shot a gun before, ever! I probably should learn too!
Hi Kelly,
I just clicked through from Tia's site. Haven't read much yet, but I think we can be friends. Not only do you love Hey, Dude, but the first post I saw was about guns. Anyway, just wanted to say hi! Now I'm going to explore your blog.
Jess
I left you a little loving (in the form of an award!) today on my blog.. check it out!
