I don't know what it is about Saturdays but it seems that is when I am at my most creative! Saturday night we were invited to my mom's best friend's house for dinner and a lesson in how to make cards. She has an entire room in her basement filled with thousands of stamps, paper, ribbons, and anything else you need to create a hand made greeting card. After a few slices of pizza we set up in the dining room and began working. I had planned to make a beach themed birthday card so once we cut the paper I had two blue card stock backgrounds and two folded sand colored pages.
I started with a funny "Snappy Birthday" card for my mother in law which you can see in the bottom right of the picture. The crab was stamped in black ink and then I colored it in using red, orange, and brown chalk! I added some googly eyes for extra effect and a blue bow to tie it all together. On the inside it says "Shore do love you!" and I wrote a simple message and signed our names. You can't have a card without and envelope to send it in so I took a plain white envelope and added a starfish on the front next to our return address and a large clam on the back which you can see in the picture! The whole project took me about an hour once I was done shading, gluing, and making sure it was perfect so I did not have as much time as I would have liked for more cards!
Thankfully since I already had the other pieces of paper cut I had to finish a second card and so out came a cute Easter card with chicks and buttons! The outside says "Happy Easter from one chick to another!" and the inside says "You crack me up!" The coordinating envelope has a hatching chick and squiggly design across the bottom on both sides. I had planned to make some baby cards too for all my friends who are having kids but we ran out of time and before we knew it, it was almost 11 o'clock! I am sure we'll be back again to make some more cards because I can't imagine going to Hallmark and spending $3-$6 on something that I know I can make now!

Do Not Leave Unattended
There are lots of reasons I should
not be left home alone on a Friday night.
I tend to spend hours on the computer (see evidence of time well spent here and here), I read countless blogs from beginning to end, I watch endless amounts of recorded television, and sometimes, on a rare occasion I actually leave the house and wander into dangerous territory. Like Target.
Here are a few of the reasons Linc might regret going to boy's poker night and leaving me to my own devices on this rainy, yucky Friday...
- Reason Number One: Dinner at Burger King! I have not had a cheeseburger in months, let alone french fries, so you better believe I enjoyed every single little bite of those puppies!
- Reason Number Two: After trying on swimsuits and actually not hating what I saw, I decided it was a good idea to ruin it all by ordering a Sippable Sundae from Steak&Shake on my way home! Pretty sure it is my entire caloric intake for the week, but I am not regretting it...yet...
- Reason Number Three: Button Collar Dress in Deep Navy (possible Easter dress)
- Reason Number Four: Seersucker Tube Dress
- Reasons Five and Six: Short Sleeve Argyle Crew Neck Sweaters in Heather Gray and Ebony
- Reason Number Seven: Scoop Neck Top in Honeysuckle
- Reason Number Eight-Ten: various other adorable spring tops that I could not find on the Target website!
Because it had been pouring all day I decided to be a lazy bum and grab BK for dinner on my way home from school. But, a few hours later my sweet tooth began hinting that it had been months since I had eaten ice cream and wouldn't it be nice to have a little treat before heading home? Of course I caved and am now enjoying my delicious sundae in a cup while I type! Pretty darn good if I do say so myself! Hopefully Linc is enjoying his male bonding time because I am about to have some quality couch time and catch up on Grey's Anatomy! Happy Friday everyone!!

Happy Birthday Daddy-O!
Last night Linc and I went to my parent's house for dinner to celebrate my sweet Daddy's birthday! They had just gotten back from a week long trip to Vegas and were craving some home cooking so we had a yummy "Thanksgiving" dinner with turkey, stuffing, and green bean casserole! My sister Alex was home on spring break and treated us to some golf themed cupcakes that she made from scratch. They had little numbered flags, green icing, and a tiny icing golf ball on top! Not to mention melted cookie dough in the middle- yum yum! I brought along a Fudgie the Whale cake from Carvel and the sugar feast was complete. We played a few rounds of Sets and Runs (our favorite card game), ate, and opened presents and then went home to crash! After three glasses of champagne, a huge turkey dinner, a cupcake, and a piece of ice cream cake I was so full and had a major food coma! Not the best way to start the week points-wise but the food was delicious and I love that we get to spend so much time with my family! April gives us a little break in celebrations with only one birthday and then the madness starts up again in May with a birthday for Linc, Mom, and Kristin! It's going to be a busy few months as I continue my count down to summer vacation but there is so much to look forward to and I can't wait! Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

March Madness
No, I am not talking about the basketball games! This past weekend my friends from school and I threw a party for everyone that had a birthday in March (I told you the celebration would last all month)! My friend Sandy offered up her house and we planned a pot luck dinner to help feed everyone that was invited. Linc and I went over to her house early to help set up food, create a play list for the night, and hang out before all the guests arrived. We ended up staying til past 2am sitting by the fire, enjoying the outdoor heater, and talking to all our friends. Highlights of the night included our usually timid coworker dancing for hours on end around the whole house, dealing with a horribly cut hand when that same someone tried to pick up a broken wine glass that she managed to shatter while dancing through the kitchen (thank goodness she didn't need stitches!), chatting for hours with some of my favorite girls, and chowing down on some delicious food. We always manage to have a great time when we get together after work and the birthday celebration was no exception. I am so glad Linc was able to come and we got a chance to toast our T2 victory because we had won our match earlier in the day 6-3, 6-4. I wish I had gotten more pictures of the night but was so busy playing hostess that I had to rely on everyone elses cameras! The pictures definitely got a bit more interesting as the night wore on...which I heard did not actually end until 5:00 in the morning! Glad we decided to skip out "early!" Hope everyone had a nice weekend and enjoyed this beautiful spring weather! Only three more weeks till Spring Break!! Wahoo!!

Jumpin' Bean
Good thing we "sprung" for the six foot fence...
Yesterday the landscaping crew was working on the lot next door and someone threw their sweatshirt over the fence. Tessa decided it was something she had to eat, kill, or maim and spent the entire afternoon jumping back and forth trying to catch it. She kept it up for a long while and was absolutely exhausted afterward! Too bad after these were taken she decided she would just dig under the fence instead! Our neighbors found her running around our side yard trying to figure out how to get back in! Thankfully this time she didn't run away- she's quite the little escape artist!

Jon and Kate +8
If you have never heard of the show Jon and Kate Plus 8 than apparently you live under a rock! It is the number one rated show on TLC and is the story of two parents, Jon and Kate Gosselin who are raising a set of twins and another of sextuplets. The couple travels all around the US promoting their two books, the show, and talking about their lives in front of the camera. Kate came to speak at the Roswell United Methodist Church on Friday night to discuss what the network tends to cut out of the show- her family's faith. She talked in depth about how she and Jon met, their marriage, and the desire to start a family. They found out early on that they would have fertility issues but how they trusted God and His plan for their lives. A set of twins and sextuplets later...they continue to trust and have faith in God's plan. Kate discussed the loss of their seventh baby, her months of bed rest before the arrival of the six babies, and how the timing of the sextuplet's birth (two days earlier than Kate wanted) couldn't have come at a better time. I am pretty sure the entire story is written in her book Multiple Blessings so I won't go into the whole thing but it was really nice to listen to her talk about her beliefs and struggles and realize that even though she is "famous" she is still human!
After listening to her story and some questions from the audience we all lined up for an autograph and photo session! The lines weaved all throughout the church and I was worried we would be there all night! My friend Halie and I went together and took a few pictures while waiting in line. Thankfully it moved pretty quick and before we knew it we were in the room with Kate! I felt like a giddy little girl when it was my turn to go up and meet her and we talked about her glowing tan and recent trip to California. She signed my program, posed for a photo, and I was on my way! I have never met a celebrity in real life before so the mere three seconds of conversation were rather exciting and I am thrilled I even got to talk to her. I am sure at that point in the night she must have been exhausted because I know I was! ;) I had such a great time and with that, I'll leave you with a mini photo collage of our night! Enjoy!
Edited (3:48pm)- I heard some of the rumors about the Gosselin's marriage, etc last night but Kate explained that the reason she was doing the appearance alone is because it is too hard on the kids when they are both out of town. She also said that she's the one that likes to talk and Jon would not make for a very interesting show! Whatever the case is I can only pray that their marriage will continue to be strong for the sake of their kids and that the publicity from the show will not negatively affect them in any way.

Baby Mayfield
I have been waiting all week to post this because I did not want to ruin the surprise but I found out on Monday that my best friend Courtney is expecting a little baby GIRL!! We have been friends since seventh grade and I am just so excited to see this next phase in our lives. A part of me wishes we could be going through it together, but she can walk me through it when my time comes to start a family!
I love you Court and even though we are so far away I am praying for you, Kyle, and the little one and can't wait to meet her when she is ready! I hope we get to see each other before she makes her grand entrance! You are going to make such a great mommy!

Le Tired
This has been one hectic week and it's not even over yet! It started on Monday with a fun outing with my small group. Every once and a while we take a break from our study to have a social event. Back in October all 11 of us went out to eat at Ippilitos and then in December we had a White Elephant Party where I won an awesome lip liner and gloss from my friend Jessica. Because we were in the middle of choosing a new book we decided to take Monday off and headed over to Discover Mills mall to paint pottery! It was so much fun and something I haven't done since I was a kid. Both of my sisters used to work at a pottery place growing up so it was an activity I was familiar with. I chose a square plate and painted our family monogram on it. I am anxious to see how it turns out once they glaze it. Hopefully it won't be as pastel as in the picture considering that blue has 5 coats on it!! We ordered in pizza and took a break to eat some birthday cake (my month long celebration continues!!) before carpooling back to our side of town and heading to bed.
Tuesday evening Lincoln and I had our first T2 match. This is our first time playing mixed doubles together competitively and T2 allows you to set up your own matches with other area "couples" and play whenever you all can agree on a time. It's great for working professionals because you don't have to commit to the same schedule every week. We showed up to our courts around 7:45 and the other couple arrived shortly after carrying their own 12 pack of beer! They wasted no time popping those suckers open and we started playing. The man was a little aggressive and ended up hitting me quite a number of times during the match. Thankfully he was apologetic but I hope that doesn't happen a lot! We took the first set 6-2 but then somehow they came back and beat us in the second set 7-5. The beer must have really kicked in then because we got them in a close third set 6-4. I think Linc and I played fairly well together and stand a decent chance this season. We'll see how it goes at the next match!
Wednesday I had another tennis match (are you noticing a trend?) that was pretty disappointing. I love my new partner but we just did not gel last night at all. This was our make up match that had gotten rained out on Sunday so maybe that threw us off. The other team was really good- extremely consistent and really got us moving around the court, never knowing where the ball was going to be next. I think we had great communication but they were just all around better players. We had two quick sets and they beat us 6-2, 6-3. I was not happy with our performance but you win some, you lose some and hopefully we can do better next time. My team always provides a great spread and the food we brought was delicious so I stayed to watch a few of the other matches while I ate dinner! We had lost one other match by the time I left and the other three matches were all headed to their third set! It was a tough night!
The rest of my week is jam packed too, mostly with tennis...

Sunday at the Gun Club
It seems like the thing to do in our small town to spend a rainy Sunday at the local gun club. Linc and I were out to lunch and decided to give it a try too! My father in law Bo has a huge farm down in south Georgia where we like to go skeet shooting and hunting but I have only recently started practicing using a handgun. We have been considering buying a gun for a while now because Linc doesn't work in the greatest area of Atlanta and our house is sort of out here in the middle of nowhere! After getting some advice from Bo we headed out to the range to try out a few different guns.
One of the guys who works there recommended a 9mm and actually loaned us his personal firearm to try. It is called a Glock 19 and was just the perfect size for me. Linc and I both took turns and shot about 200 bullets to see what we thought. It had a pretty fierce recoil for my taste but I was able to quickly recover and shoot again. It was also light weight which helps but my arms still got tired after about 3 rounds. Hopefully if there was an intruder and a need for me to use the gun it would not take that much to teach him a lesson!!
During the practice I had certain goals in mind each time I sent the target out. All of these were shot from about 15-20 feet away. Pretty darn good for my first time in a range!
We had such a good time and I am sure we'll be back to try out a few more options before buying anything. They also offer women's shooting classes and monthly memberships so that you can just walk right in on crowded days and not have to wait in line. For as much as I have fought being a "Southerner" for the last 19 years it is definitely starting to rub off on me and I can't wait to go to the range again soon! Certainly not your most common hobby, but I think it's a good thing for a girl to know in this day and age and it gives me peace of mind to know I could protect myself if the need arose! Does anyone else out there have any odd hobbies? Let me know! =)

The Celebration Continues!
I have to say that so far my 25th year is the best ever! Who knew I would be celebrating for weeks but it has been so much fun so far! After the dreaded parent conferences were over on Friday my grade level spent the next three and a half hours going through every single second grade student's permanent record file getting them cleaned out and shredding duplicate copies of information. Our school is Title One with a huge ESOL program and we are preparing for an upcoming audit. There were over a hundred files for us to sift through making sure all the paperwork was in the correct order so if by some random chance the auditors pull that file it looks perfect. It was a tedious and time consuming job that took our entire afternoon. For a "Teacher Work Day" I was pretty disappointed that I never had time to actually work in my classroom and prepare for the weeks ahead. Oh well, such is life!
After that whole ordeal I headed out to dinner with my good friend Daniele. She met me at a Mexican restaurant near my house called Chepes. They have delicious food and we spent three hours catching up, eating, and enjoying some fruity margaritas! It was so nice to have that time to talk since we hardly see each other anymore! She was on Spring Break so I was so happy she came home to spend time with me! Saturday I woke up to the sound of rain knowing that my tennis match had been cancelled. Linc and I spent a lazy day around the house and finally around 4:00 I got out of my jammies to prep for the night ahead.
My girlfriends from school had given me a night out on the town for my birthday and we were headed to Two Urban Licks in Atlanta. I got all fancy and actually spent some time doing my makeup and went over to my friend Amy's house to hitch a ride. If you live in the Atlanta area and have never been to Two, you are missing out! I would fail as a food critic because all I can think to say is "wow!" The food was absolutely amazing and what a neat atmosphere. The building is located in a warehouse district and very deceiving to find but once you navigate the signs to the complimentary valet you're all set. Amy and I met Rachel and Jenna at the bar and were quickly led to our table. It also happened to be prom for some area high schools so it was so fun to see all the kids dressed up in matching dresses and tuxes!
Food highlights of the night included:
Now as if this wasn't enough...we're having another birthday party next weekend for all of the March birthdays at school! My friend Sandy and I are planning a pot luck dinner at her house next Saturday and so far the guest list is close to 35 people! Yikes! I am really excited for it though and can't wait to see what else happens this month. Here is what I am looking forward to so far:

Two Words...
Parent Conferences.
Enough said.
But I do have a very exciting and fun filled weekend planned so hopefully I will be back to my regular posting after today! As of right now (8:00am) I have one conference finished, two that already did not show up, and seven left. Not to mention a week's worth of lesson plans, cleaning out all the PR folders for second grade, hanging up ESOL language objectives and standards around the room for our upcoming audit, and finding time to finish cleaning, organizing, and setting up the room for another busy week! Yikes! Is it spring break yet?!

Birthday Weekend Recap
What a great way to ring in a new year of life by celebrating four days in a row! My scale certainly did not appreciate it as I ignored all of my diet plans and really indulged myself but, oh well, minor set back! Friday was a great day at school celebrating Dr. Seuss day. We had a read-a-thon and many guest speakers come throughout the day. Add a video on top of that and we really relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. I was able to get a lot of work done and left early to head home and rest up for our dinner. Linc and I met my parents at their club and Alex surprised us by coming home a day early! We ate a delicious meal of Calamari, Filet Mignon, and Parmesan Risotto with brownie a la mode for dessert! Mom and I split a bottle of champagne and it was a great night had by all!
Saturday we woke up extra early to take Tessa to the vet to have her staple removed. Then we drove over to my parents where Linc and Dad won their first round T2 playoff match! It was pretty close but they played great and we can't wait to see them kick butt next week too! I got to open my presents from the family which included a new beach themed rocker for our beach themed guest room, a new tennis outfit, and some beautiful jewelry! Afterward the boys went to clean up and the girls went out to eat at The Patio. We headed to the pet store to browse and then to a consignment shop where I found the perfect mirror for over my mantle for 50% off! Then we drove up near my house to hit up Home Goods and TJ Maxx. What great deals! I walked away with some new bedroom decor, two amazing flower prints to hang up, four sea shell prints for our guest bathroom, and some new clothes as well!
Sunday was a busy day because I had my first tennis match! It was a very sunny and warm day, perfect for spending time outside! My partner and I played very well together for it only being our first time and won both sets 6-2, 6-1. This was our Easter match that our captain arranged for us to play early and we took three out of the four matches. Our fifth match will be played sometime this week but what a great way to start off the season! I came home to find a huge cookie cake waiting for me on the counter and Linc in the backyard beginning to work on our huge landscaping project. We spent the day doing laundry, cleaning the house, and then relaxing on the couch. We ordered in a delicious dinner of sushi and watched some tv together before heading to bed. I had so much fun celebrating with friends and family but now it's back to the real world and my every day routine! Thank you to everyone who helped make this birthday so special and for all your well wishes, cards, and gifts! I really do appreciate it and am looking forward to seeing what my twenty fifth year has in store for me!

The Terrible Twos Club
The second of the Jack Russell Terrorists turns two today!
What better way to celebrate then have her staple removed! Thankfully our little "princess" is fully healed from the little mishap on her brother's birthday! Happy Birthday Tessa!

Quarter Life Crisis
Don't worry, I don't think I'll be having one of those any time soon. I had such a great start to my weekend-long birthday celebration. Thursday I woke up to a very sweet card that Linc left by my sink and I headed to work in a great mood. I had not requested much for this birthday except for one major project- to have our backyard finished! We have spent the last year working on the front and getting the inside painted and decorated and our poor backyard has been seriously neglected. We had taken out a few big pine trees a few months ago and now there is just a huge area of dirt and pine straw near the back fence. One lone tree was planted right smack in the middle of the yard and it needs to be moved. Our plan is to recover our concrete patio with stone and extend it over- adding in a deck and built in grill! Can't wait to see how it turns out in real life. You can see from the drawing that Linc made what he has in mind!
When I got to school my kids had remembered it was a special day and also made me some cards that we hung on my desk to display. One little girl even painted me a picture of sunflowers on a canvas because she knew how much I love them! My girlfriends at school arrived with a card and a celebration dinner at Two Urban Licks for next week! While we were in the middle of our grade level meeting a beautiful bouquet of tulips and balloons arrived from my amazing parents! One more surprise awaited as my new friend Jenna surprised me at lunch with a gift and a delicious chocolate cake!! Thursday afternoon I went to our school's fundraiser at Chick-fil-A and ate an early dinner before heading to tennis practice! We have our first match on Sunday and I wanted to make sure I had enough court time with my new partner. I ended up staying a little later and playing another match so by the time I got home I showered up and headed to bed!
Friday at school we are celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! It was supposed to be Monday, but perhaps you remember this post? It is also Read Across America week so we are spending the whole day reading Dr. Seuss books and other great stories that the kids have brought in. We have several guest readers lined up to come to the classroom and I am hoping it will be a very quiet and enjoyable day! My grade level ordered in a delicious lunch to continue the birthday celebration from my favorite sandwich shop- Fancy Pantry- complete with mini decadent cupcakes! Did I mention points don't count on your birthday? Good thing I played tennis three days this week! We have a busy few days coming up to celebrate my birthday even more- tonight Linc and I are meeting my parents at the club for dinner, we're going to a little party at out friend's house on Saturday, and Sunday Linc and I will celebrate together! I am sure I will have a lot more to post about as the weekend continues but so far it has been a great birthday! Thank you all for your sweet comments yesterday and hope you're having a great day too!

"Snow" Day
This weekend Georgia was hit with it's first snow storm of 2009. What began as rain on Saturday and on into Sunday changed to light snow in my area around mid day. Now, we were impressed for all of five minutes but then the snow stopped and we were left with a pretty clear evening. I snapped a few "during" photos to document the event and then went about my business preparing for a busy work week. I went to bed joking that maybe we'd get a snow day- not realizing that the area south of us (where my school is located) had actually accumulated a decent amount of snow on the ground! And when I say decent, I mean less than an inch. This is Georgia, ya know!
I woke up around 5:30 yesterday morning and decided to hit the snooze button a few times. I am glad I did because at 6:01am my grade chair sent me a simple text message. "No School!" I didn't believe her since we had hardly gotten any snow at all but I got up and checked the school website and she was right. Our county NEVER cancels school. I mean never so needless to say I was quite excited. I managed to fall back asleep until around 9! What a luxury! I ate a nice breakfast, lounged around with my dogs, caught up on a bit of laundry, and even had time to run to the outdoor mall and get some new shoes and a cute purse! I had such a great day off and think the county should seriously consider a four day work week! That's one way to save money next year so we don't have to surplus all our teachers!!
There was still a bit of snow on the ground when I went to school today and the kids even tried to start up an ice fight during recess. Did anyone else get the day off? If so, I hope you enjoyed it and caught up on your rest! If only this weather would make up it's mind though- it's supposed to be in the seventies this weekend!!

Ok, I didn't even last one single day before tweaking the blog and making changes. I just can't help myself!! I thought the header could use a little color and thus a hand drawn rainbow was created complete with Pot o' Gold. We'll see how long I can go without changing it again ;)
In other news, I received my very first award today (which you can see on the sidebar below) from my favorite blogger and friend- Golf Gal. She also just happens to be my extremely talented, supportive, and beautiful mother! I must get my creativity from her and if you haven't been to her bridal website yet to see all her amazing creations please check it out. If you or someone you know is getting married she comes highly recommended and worked with me for two years to plan the most extravagant and elegant wedding ever! Additional photos from her recent weddings and contact information to get in touch can be seen at her Wedding and Event Design website as well!
