Carter has a love/hate relationship with dirt. On one hand, he loves playing in it, getting messy, and being a boy but once he realizes it’s all over him, he tends to freak out a bit! He loved splashing around in the mud puddles on the driveway in NC with his buddy Percy. It was so much fun…until it wasn’t!
Get this dirt off me momma!
I have been busy with life lately and blogging has taken a bit of a backseat. Lots of catching up to do!! In the meantime, here are more photos of our weekend getaway to North Carolina. Saturday morning we woke up early, played around at the house for a bit, and then went on a great hike. Linc and I cooked dinner for the house and then we stayed up late playing games.
My photography hobby seems to be taking off and I had my first paying client last week. I met this little boy through a Baby Brigade mom and was asked to take his two year old portraits. It is really hard to do a session with a busy toddler but we had lots of fun and I learned that all children have minds of their own! I had one idea of how his portraits would go, but little Alex decided that was not going to work for him! Thankfully we were in an area where he could roam and explore and I think his mother was very happy with how the photos turned out. It showed off his very active personality perfectly!
Please excuse the double dose of annoying watermarks but apparently you can never be too careful!
I learned very quickly going into this project that I do not enjoy editing photos very much!! It is definitely the most time consuming task and I would loose patience very quickly. I can understand why professional photographers charge so much for their time but, all the more reason for me to continue practicing and trying to get that perfect shot so I have less work to do behind the scenes!
If you have constructive criticism, I would love hearing it. Obviously I am NOT a professional and still have lots to learn so it always helps when people can contribute and help me see what needs work.
The other weekend we took a “company retreat” to North Carolina with the Woomers. It was so beautiful up in the mountains and such a nice change of pace! It was also nice to get away from the 90+ temperatures in Atlanta for a bit. We spent the weekend hiking, eating, and relaxing. On the drive up we stopped at Tallulah Gorge and took in the scenery.
The view from our porch!
When we arrived Carter decided he needed to help clean up a little!
There is a beautiful field of sunflowers near our house and the other day I went over there and made friends with the woman who owns the land! I wanted to be able to walk around her property and take pictures so I thought it would be a good idea to get permission first! She was so friendly and helped me cut some flowers to take to my mother. They have a farm stand at the edge of their driveway where they sell the sunflowers and allow visitors to tour their old barn. I can’t wait to go back and use the field for family portraits since Carter was a less than willing baby model! Despite being sick he had no interest in sitting still! We had been cooped up in the house all week and I think he was taking advantage of the fresh air and freedom! It was certainly much easier taking pictures of the flowers, but we had lots of fun!
I love taking pictures (especially of Carter) but recently I had a few friends ask if I would take their family portraits. I jumped at the chance to try out the new lens I got for our anniversary and also try my hand photographing other people. First up was the Reeders- friends from high school I reconnected with now that we have kids! We went to Poole’s Mill Bridge and I had them pose all over the park. Thankfully they were very easy going and didn’t mind when I suggested they go out in the middle of the river! We had lots of fun and I am hoping this will be the beginning of a new hobby! I still have so much to learn (like how on earth to pose people) but it was a lot of fun and I appreciate their family being so patient while we tried new things. If any of you have suggestions or critiques-- feel free to add them below!
