NYE at the Farm/ What's in the Bag?

We spent New Years at the farm with Linc's side of the family. The land itself is just gorgeous and I think it would be so amazing to live there and have 1400 acres of wide open space! My father in law has a mill on his property and always has tons of wood beams stacked about. They made for the perfect backdrop to an impromptu photo shoot on New Year's Day. Carter has been very cooperative as I practice with my new camera and thankfully we had beautiful weather on the first day we were there. We drove out to a few locations on the property and I snapped away! Out of 300+ pictures in three days here are two of my faves:

After pictures we sat down to a yummy dinner of blue cheese and spinach burgers! Then we spent the rest of the evening playing charades by the fire and watching the various countdowns on TV. Carter went to bed pretty early while the rest of the family stayed up to ring in the New Year. Unfortunately, all that partying woke him up around 12:45 and he decided to have his OWN party until around 4:30 in the morning...Happy New Year to me...Needless to say we spent a good majority of Saturday napping!

What's in the Bag? If you're not a fan of looking at tons of pictures of my son, you should probably skip this entire week of blog posts because it is going to be picture overload! I mentioned before that I got a new camera for Christmas and what better place to practice than in the pastures of the farm! The camera itself is a Canon EOS 60D with a Canon EF 50mm F1.8II lens. It is a fixed telephoto portrait lens which means there is no manual zoom feature. It produces pictures that are really close to what your eye is actually seeing. I was also lucky enough to receive the same brand of camera as my mom's old 35mm so I inherited her lenses which are still compatible. This includes a Quantaray 70-300mm (telephoto zoom) lens and a 77mm (wide angle) lens. I am thrilled with this camera so far and read the book cover to cover the first night I had it! My tiny digital camera was fine but it was having a hard time keeping up with Carter as he becomes more mobile. I am really pleased with the quality of the photos and hope you will enjoy this week of posts as I show off what we've been up to! Any critiques or suggestions are welcome because I still have a lot to learn!

great pictures Mama! What camera did you get? You are doing a great job already. It took me months to learn to take the shots I wanted with my camera.
