Eight Weeks Old

Almost two months have already flown by and life with an infant is still just as exciting and challenging as ever before! Carter changes every day and is growing like a weed. During that growth spurt I posted about a few days ago he gained two pounds in one week! Besides eating like a champ, here are some things Carter has been doing recently:

• Smiling directly at us (we're so close to a laugh!)
• Coos, gurgles, and ahs during conversation
  
• Kicks and waves his arms when he is excited
  
• Turns his head to locate sounds around him
• Holds his head up for longer periods of time
• Sucks on his fist (hasn't figured out how to uncurl his thumb yet though)
• Bats at toys on his activity mat
• Grasps objects nearby for a few seconds

We survived his eight week check up on Friday no worse for wear despite the 5 shots he had to get, an oral vaccine, and a wardrobe change after peeing on his pediatrician. The poor guy shrieked at the second injection but thankfully the nurse was so fast it was over before I could start crying too! After a quick snack to calm him down we managed to make it home before the "tears" started again. He spent the first forty five minutes once we got back nursing (which really isn't that much different from our regular nursing sessions...) and promptly fell asleep. I knew we had a big baby on our hands and here are his two month stats to prove it:

• Height- 24 inches/ 89th percentile
• Weight- 14 lbs 7 oz/ 96th percentile
• Head- 16.4 inches/ 85th percentile

The doctor said he is totally in proportion and we should be very proud that we have such a healthy eater! Perhaps Carter will grow up to be a football player!! In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy doing this as much as possible:
